Project Description

“From the vast blue Midwestern skies juxtaposed against the angular rows of fields to the vivid colors of the harvest, it is my hope that this mural stimulates the same love and admiration for the local farmer and our land that I have to everyone who views it.”

As you can imagine, organizing and implementing an art beautification project utilizing private and public funds, donated materials, privately owned properties and battling mother nature is not the easiest endeavor. The downtown Springfield Farmers Market mural was a concept for many years prior to its completion. Troy Freeman had approached us at Downtown Springfield, Inc. (DSI) for a long time wanting to paint murals on some of the available wall spaces in the downtown district. He, along with our staff and volunteers, sat in numerous meetings discussing logistics, time, products, locations, and, of course, money to get it done. Troy was beyond professional at all times. He provided a “draft” conceptual drawing of the Farmers Market mural to us and committed to finding the sponsor for the paint. After a few adjustments to the drawing Troy began work. He was reliable, thorough and friendly to visitors. He took the time to explain the project to onlookers and was a constant advocate for the project until the last brush stroke. The Farmers Market mural is a crown jewel and anchor of the beautification of downtown Springfield. We enjoyed working with Troy and look forward to seeing what his next project will be.
